HISTORY
BABA PRITHVINATH TEMPLE is about 6500 years old. In this region there was a devil named VAKASURA . They were supplied daily with an ox and a human for food by the people. The bull was usually arranged by the king of the region and man was volunteering for himself. It is said that the PANDAVAS came to this place during their exile and stayed here for some time.
One day Kunti the mother of Pandavas was passing through this place, she found a woman crying with tears in her eyes. She investigated its cause. The woman said that she has only one son and Vakasura is also being offered for food. When Kunti knew about it, she said don't worry, because you have only one son and I have five, I will send my son in place of your son.
When she returned and told the problems to her sons, BHIMA agreed to leave. When Bhima reached that place, he challenged Vakasura and this resulted in a fierce battle between Vakasura and Bhima. Finally Bhima killed Vakasura and the people of the region started living in peace and prosperity, But this VAKASURA was a BRAHMIN ASURA, thus Bhima was blamed for Brahma-Hatya. In order to repent, Bhima did penance here and established the world's largest Shivalinga at this place namrd BABA PRITHVINATH.
BABA PRITHVINATH SHIVLINGA is a SEVEN SEGMENT SHIVLINGA that looks 15 FEET above and 64 FEET below ground.
HOW TO REACH
- You can take a Bus from Gonda bus station to Balrampur or Bahraich.
- If you take a bus to Balrampur, then you can take an auto to the temple by taking it to ETIYATHOK MARKET
- If you choose a bus going to Bahraich, then you will have to get down at the ARYANAGAR intersection and auto, which will take you to the temple.
- JHALIDHAM is some 500 meters away from Baba Prithvi Nath Temple, where there is a temple and a large lake.
